Is it Christmas?

iPlayer goes multiplatform with AIR

picture-3

Nothing remarkable given that the streaming service has been miles better than the download service for months now, but the BBC have finally put the final nail in Channel 4’s On Demand delivery platform coffin by proving outright that there ARE ways of getting DRM content out to people that aren’t stuck to Windows.

So hurry the fuck up, because I keep missing the bloody IT Crowd.

Merlin’s Magic – BBC

merlin

Eyepet just managed to remind me of another of the places I’d seen AR venturing out into over a month ago, but totally forgot to bring up here.  ’Merlin’s Magic’ – a fun little app that went out amongst a good chunk of content on the BBC’s microsite accompanying what was really quite a fun little series – makes use of a standard webcam, a printout and a quick software download to give users a new and interesting way to interact with video content.

Follow the link to see how – now if only they were using something like AIR or browser embedding to run it, so us poor mac kids could get a go!

EyePet

I haven’t touched an eyetoy in years, though I definitely had my fair share of invisible wankery addiction when they appeared – but this is just so damn adorable, and is exactly where the tech should be heading to stay fresh.  Augmented Reality (AR) is something I’ve been captivated by since I first saw it being used a couple of years ago, and I’m really happy to see it slowly leaking out into reality.

This’ll probably get shit boring after 20 minutes, but then again I was always critical of Nintendogs until I had a go and found myself wittering ‘oosagudboyyy?!’ into an unsuspecting DS not 10 minutes later, so what the piss do I know?

Rolando

Last night I went on one of my many frequent app store trudges, where I go hunting for free things for my phone that are half worth a look – but this little bugger actually convinced me to part with REAL money.  And I thoroughly suggest that everyone with an iPhone/iTouch do the same, because this is an absolute joy.

I for one was immediately drawn to it through the love I had for LocoRoco on the PSP – and this more than lives up to it if you’re wondering.  A stunning art style, brilliant original music and (most importantly) absolutely inspired gameplay.  No ‘lite’ version, so if you’re curious, throw £6 at it and get happy.

…Dumbledore!

Caught this on Iain Tate’s blog. I’ve watched it six times in as many minutes. Sigh.
